A standard letter of acknowledgement of an application for employment, together with the Job Specification and General Company Information can be seen as both receipt and further advertisement for the company.
A simple standard letter, with an outline of the necessary details of the vacancy requirements, could also be sent to referees.
Usually, referees give positive statements within a reference and do not include derogatory remarks. The company must therefore be aware of this fact and especially if no reference is supplied at all.
If a person is to make a fresh start, in a new position, every opportunity should be given to assist this process.
